Static vs dynamic
Two kinds of QR code
A static QR code stores your web address in the pattern itself. Nothing sits between the scan and your page, so it never depends on a service, but the address can never be changed after printing.
A dynamic QR code stores a short link instead, such as qrdeed.com/c/k7m2p9x. The scan opens the short link, and the service redirects it to the page you chose. You can change that page at any time without reprinting, and see how many scans each code gets per day.
When a static code is enough
You may not need a dynamic code at all
If the address will never change, such as your home page or a Wi-Fi login, a static code is the most permanent option there is: it works with no service in between. A dynamic code is worth it when the page will change: a seasonal menu, an event schedule, a price list, or a link printed on packaging that will be on shelves for years.
Permanence
How long a dynamic code keeps working
Because a dynamic code always passes through the provider's redirect, it only works while the provider keeps that redirect on. Dynamic codes are often sold as a monthly or yearly plan, or start as a free trial. When the plan or trial ends, the redirect is commonly paused, or sent to a page of the provider's choosing, until you pay again. The printed code still scans, but it no longer reaches your page.
